Today we heard from the Book of Exodus that God gave manna to the Israelites in the desert. Jesus, in the Gospel of St. John, says that the people were looking for him, not because of the signs he worked, but because they ate the loaves and were satisfied. Then he tells them, “Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life.” When the people told him that God had given their ancestors manna in the desert, Jesus told them that it was His Father who gives the true bread from heaven. When the People asked him to give this bread always, Jesus said, “I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me will never hunger and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” We need to learn from these readings. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. We are all called to know Jesus, love Jesus, and serve Jesus.
